Treasures in London

Yesterday I came to think that my blog is getting a very philosophical side. That is probably not what you are coming here for. So today it is back to fashion!

I went back to Brick Lane with a friend yesterday because she needed some vintage shoes. And o what I bumped into there!
Emin and Paul is a boutique with the most amazing stuff – read: great coats, accessories and the most perfect blouses. I spotted a clutch that is now at number one on my absolute want-list. Furthermore I tried on a trench coat that all the people in the store seemed to like on me. Pretty things!

The owners, Emin and Paul, both studied at the London College of Fashion, which is also my school. Emin has Asian roots, which you can definitely see in the cut of her clothes. Her husband Paul makes the accessories. So he is the creator of this beautiful clutch. They first started out making headbands and selling them at Portobello and Spitalfields Market.

I’m going back next week to take some better pictures but as for now, here are some I made with my phone to give you an idea of the atmosphere of the boutique.

Inspiration-overload

These days I’m full of ideas. I don’t know if  it’s London, the people I’m meeting out here, things I’m reading and learning or just me. But the fact is that ideas are the fuel of life. Without ideas, inspiration and creativity, well, I don’t know what that would be like but I wouldn’t want to be there.

Yesterday evening I was invited to a screening of the documentary about the life of Diana Vreeland. She was the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar and editor of Vogue for many many years. And wow, this woman had some ideas. She was the personalisation of ideas, always looking ahead of the future and fighting for what she believed in. I guess, we all want to be like that in some way. I personally really enjoyed some of the quotes of her that appeared in the movie. They really made me think of what it is that I want and how I can get there.

Being average might seem okay for a lot of us. I’m also guilty of settling with being average sometimes. But the truth is, you have to be the best version of yourself you can ever be. It doesn’t matter what you do, do it with pride, elegance and conviction.

So go out and strive for nothing less than perfection!

London' hipsters flocking together

2 words: Spitalfields Market. Every vintage lover should go there once in their life, and then come back a couple of hundred times more. J

Okay, let me start at the beginning. Saturday, sun and a fabulous guide That’s all you need to make for a perfect day. We first went to check out Dover Street Market. This is a five-floor designer store, mostly with pieces of ‘Comme des garçons’ but I saw some great pieces of Céline and Mary Katrantzou as well. This place was kind of out of budget for me but let’s just hope I get to shop there some day – hopefully in the not-so-far future.

After that, we decided to channel our inner-hipness and go to East London. And oh what I found there! I discovered the Spitalfields Market, which is a kind of vintage market that’s open almost every day! I saw so much pretty stuff that I will have to go back. Very. Soon. Brick Lane was on our next stop and I was amazed by the amount of people out there. It really is the place to be in London if you want to be spotted with the cool kids. So make sure you drop by there when you’re in London the next time – and invite me to join you!

Happy birthday to me!

Wednesday was my birthday and I spent the day spoiling myself with a great breakfast, a manicure and a night out with my friend. I received a lot of adorable texts and through this post, I would like to thank you all! I do miss you guys out here! A lot!

Now – enough with the emo stuff – my life is getting pretty busy out here. My tutor is telling me to go out, go to parties, be on top of the trends in London. Well, it’s a hard job I guess but someone has got to do it. Furthermore he is telling me not to invest in books but in magazines, all kinds of magazines! Since I’ve been here, I got to notice that there is life besides Elle, Glamour and Vogue – who would have thought? So I’m exploring a whole new world out here. J

Next week’s agenda: the Chanel expo on the ‘Little Black Jacket’ in the Saatchi gallery, a pre-screening of the documentary on Diana Vreeland (famous fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar) and the British Film Festival. Besides that I will be spending this weekend exploring some essentials in London like Dover Street Market and Columbia Road Flower Market. Lots of things to do!

My school is too cool for you

But for now, I’m ‘stuck’ with my homework. I’m writing a piece on ‘Why I love… All Stars’ and on the Fashion Moment of red lipstick. Feeling like a true writer behind my desk here.
